Now you will feel less rain,
For each of you is shelter to the other
Now you will feel less cold,
For each of you is warmth to the other
Now there is less loneliness
For each of you is companion to the other
Now you are two persons
But there is one life before you
Go then to your place of togetherness
And may your days be long and good Â
On the face of the earth
This romantic and soulful wedding blessing may be sung by any voice, although it was originally written for baritone. The spiritual intention is one of prayerfulness and of deep appreciation for how true love makes us one with our beloved.
“Apache Wedding Blessing” was commissioned by the esteemed baritone, Dr. John Lueck, Professor of voice at Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado, who introduced me to the English translation of the traditional Apache text, and who performed the premiere, recorded here.
